High Fill-Out, Extreme Mass Ratio Overcontact Binary Systems. X. The new discovered binary XY Leonis Minoris
The new discovered short-period close binary star, XY LMi, was monitored
photometrically since 2006. It is shown that the light curves are typical
EW-type and show complete eclipses with an eclipse duration of about 80
minutes. By analyzing the complete B, V, R, and I light curves with the 2003
version of the W-D code, photometric solutions were determined. It is
discovered that XY LMi is a high fill-out, extreme mass ratio overcontact
binary system with a mass ratio of q=0.148 and a fill-out factor of f=74.1%,
suggesting that it is on the late evolutionary stage of late-type tidal-locked
binary stars. As observed in other overcontact binary stars, evidence for the
presence of two dark spots on both components are given. Based on our 19
epoches of eclipse times, it is found that the orbital period of the
overcontact binary is decreasing continuously at a rate of
dP/dt=-1.67\times10^{-7}\,days/year, which may be caused by the mass transfer
from the primary to the secondary or/and angular momentum loss via magnetic
stellar wind. The decrease of the orbital period may result in the increase of
the fill-out, and finally, it will evolve into a single rapid-rotation star
when the fluid surface reaching the outer critical Roche Lobe.Comment: 19 pages, 4 figures, 9 table
The most plausible explanation of the cyclical period changes in close binaries: the case of the RS CVn-type binary WW Dra
We searched the orbital period changes in 182 EA-type (including the 101
Algol systems used by \cite{hal89}), 43 EB-type and 53 EW-type binaries with
known both the mass ratio and the spectral type of their secondary components.
We reproduced and improved the same diagram as Hall's (1989) according to the
new collected data. Our plots do not support the conclusion derived by
\cite{hal89} that all cases of cyclical period changes are restricted to
binaries having the secondary component with spectral types later than F5. The
presence of period changes also among stars with secondary component of early
type indicates that the magnetic activity is one cause, but not the only one,
for the period variation. It is discovered that cyclic period changes, likely
due to the presence of a third body are more frequent in EW-type binaries among
close binaries. Therefore, the most plausible explanation of the cyclical
period changes is the LTTE via the presence of a third body. By using the
century-long historical record of the times of light minimum, we analyzed the
cyclical period change in the Algol binary WW Dra. It is found that the orbital
period of the binary shows a cyclic variation
with an amplitude of . The cyclic oscillation
can be attributed to the LTTE via a third body with a mass no less than . However, no spectral lines of the third body were discovered
indicating that it may be a candidate black hole. The third body is orbiting
the binary at a distance shorter than 14.4 AU and it may play an important role
in the evolution of this system.Comment: 9 pages, 5 figures, published by MNRA
Association of interleukin 10 rs1800896 polymorphism with susceptibility to breast cancer: a meta-analysis.
Objective: To evaluate the correlation between interleukin 10 (IL-10) -1082A/G polymorphism (rs1800896) and breast cancers by performing a meta-analysis.
Methods: The Embase and Medline databases were searched through 1 September 2018 to identify qualified articles. Odds ratios (OR) and corresponding 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were applied to evaluate associations.
Results: In total, 14 case-control studies, including 5320 cases and 5727 controls, were analyzed. We detected significant associations between the IL10 -1082 G/G genotype and risk of breast cancer (AA + AG vs. GG: OR = 0.88, 95% CI = 0.80-0.97). Subgroup analyses confirmed a significant association in Caucasian populations (OR = 0.89, 95% CI = 0.80-0.99), in population-based case-control studies (OR = 0.87, 95% CI = 0.78-0.96), and in studies with ≥500 subjects (OR = 0.88, 95% CI = 0.79-0.99) under the recessive model (AA + AG vs. GG). No associations were found in Asian populations.
Conclusions: The IL10 -1082A/G polymorphism is associated with an increased risk of breast cancer. The association between IL10 -1082 G/G genotype and increased risk of breast cancer is more significant in Caucasians, in population-based studies, and in larger studies
Effect Of Multivalent Ions On The Swelling And Mechanical Behavior Of Superabsorbent Polymers (Saps) For Mitigation Of Mortar Autogenous Shrinkage
The chemical and physical structure-property relationships of model superabsorbent polymer (SAP) hydrogels were characterized with respect to swelling behavior and mechanical properties in different ionic solutions (Na+ , Ca2+ , and Al3+ ). The model hydrogels were composed of poly(sodium acrylate-acrylamide) (PANa-PAM) copolymer with varying concentrations of PANa (0, 17, 33, 67, and 83 wt.%) and covalent crosslinking densities of 1, 1.5, and 2 wt.%. By synthesizing the hydrogels in-house, systems with independently tunable amounts of covalent crosslinking and anionic functional groups were created, allowing for the relative effects of covalent and ionic crosslinking on the properties of the hydrogels to be directly quantified. It was found that the presence of Ca2+ and Al3+ in the absorbed fluid significantly decreased the swelling capacity and altered the swelling kinetics of the PANa-PAM hydrogels. The presence of Al 3+ in solution resulted in the unexpected formation of a mechanically stiff barrier layer at the hydrogel\u27s surface, which hindered the release of fluid and caused the overall elastic modulus of the hydrogel to increase from O(10 kPa) for hydrogels immersed in Ca 2+ solutions to O(100 kPa) for hydrogels immersed in Al3+ solutions. Tensile tests performed on isolated specimens of the stiff barrier layer yielded elastic moduli in the O(50-100 MPa) range. Further experiments proved that PANa-PAM hydrogels are effective to keep mortar internal relative humidity at high value (~98%) during setting and also PANa-PAM decreased the autogenous shrinkage of mortar to less than 50 microstrain while plain mortar showed 350 microstrain
